Quiz FAQ

Updated

Practical answers about playing, hosting, scheduling and getting help. For a first game with friends, start with the hosting guide linked below.

How do I play solo?

On the homepage, choose solo play, then pick a listed topic or enter your own. Continue to settings to select Easy, Medium, or Hard and 10, 15, or 20 questions. Start the quiz when you are ready. Each question has four possible answers.

Solo play is timed: choose 10, 15 or 20 seconds per question in settings. New quizzes default to 20 seconds. Choosing an answer shows whether it was correct and an explanation. The timer continues, so use Next when you are ready or let the quiz advance when time runs out. There is no untimed mode.

How do I host a multiplayer quiz?

On the homepage, choose multiplayer and pick a listed topic or enter your own. Continue to settings to choose the difficulty and question count and enter a room name and nickname. Create the room, then share its invitation link or room code privately with your friends. With a code, players choose Join a room, enter the code and their name in settings, and press Join room. An invitation link opens the room directly and asks new players for their name there.

The host starts the match once everyone has joined. All players receive the same questions and play against the same clock. Opening a setup page does not create a room or generate a quiz.

Can I schedule a multiplayer quiz for later?

Yes. Choose multiplayer, pick a topic and, in settings, choose Schedule for later. Enter a room name, your nickname and the date and time, and you get an invitation link to share straight away. Guests see the start time in their own time zone and can answer Going? with Yes or No; a Yes lets them add the quiz to their calendar. You only see how many friends are going, never their names.

The lobby opens up to 30 minutes before the start. Guests can join and chat there while they wait, and you start the quiz yourself: it never starts on its own, and never before the scheduled time. If you do not open the lobby, the invitation expires 24 hours after the start. Keep your private host link to yourself.

How many people can join, and can someone join late?

A multiplayer match needs at least two players and supports up to 20, including the host. Everyone should join while the room is in the lobby. New players cannot join a match that has already started.

Rooms expire 24 hours after creation and may close sooner when everyone leaves. If a room has expired, create a new one and share its new invitation. Keep the invitation within your group; anyone with access to it may try to join.

What topics are available?

Start with picture-led quizzes such as Flags, Animals, Famous People, Landmarks and Space, or Human Body. Then browse films and television (including anime), music, sports, general knowledge, food and drink, history, religion and mythology, science and technology, geography, mathematics, and arts and literature. Programming is within Science & Technology, and country history is within History.

Choose a broad topic when people have different interests, or agree on a specialist subject before starting. The category guides explain the available choices and give practical advice for choosing a round.

How do the timer and scores work?

In multiplayer, a three-second countdown is followed by the host’s chosen 10-, 15- or 20-second answer window and a three-second answer reveal. New rooms default to 20 seconds. The host can change the time in the lobby or for the next match, but not during a running match. A correct answer received in time earns 1,000 points plus a speed bonus of up to 500, proportional to the chosen time remaining. Wrong answers and missed questions earn no points. The server decides whether an answer arrived before the deadline.

Multiplayer standings compare total points, then correct answers, then total response time for correct answers. Players can share a rank if those measures are equal. Solo results use the points assigned to correct answers and do not use the multiplayer speed bonus. Scores from different quizzes are not a like-for-like comparison.

What happens if my connection drops?

If other players stay connected, the multiplayer match continues on the shared clock while you reconnect. Return to the same room in the same browser, with its site storage intact, so the app can recognise your existing session. The room view refreshes from the server when the connection returns.

Reconnecting does not pause or replay missed questions, and an answer sent during an interruption may not arrive in time. If the host disconnects while other players stay connected, the active match continues. Host controls can become claimable after the host has been away for a minute. A different device, private window, or cleared browser storage may not recover the original player.

How are custom topic quizzes generated?

Choose solo or multiplayer on the homepage, then scroll to the custom-topic section below the categories and enter a short, specific subject. Surprise me is available alongside it to preview a listed topic and roll again. Press Choose settings for your own topic or Use this topic for a suggestion, then select your difficulty, question count and answer time. The app uses AI to generate questions and explanations only when you start a quiz or match. Keep personal details out of topic text. Some obscure or ambiguous topics may produce weaker questions or may not return a usable quiz.

A useful topic names a subject and a boundary, such as beginner Python or ancient Roman daily life. The topic field is not a way to upload material or guarantee that a particular question will appear.

How do picture-based Flags questions work?

Picture-based Flags rounds use a checked catalogue of country and territory flags and answer choices instead of generating questions with AI. Choose the country or territory that uses the pictured flag. It covers 192 of the 193 UN member states, plus Vatican City, Palestine, Kosovo, Taiwan, Western Sahara, Åland and the Faroe Islands. Afghanistan is left out for now because its national flag is disputed. Easy mixes two similar flags with one clearly different one; Medium and Hard use closer regional or visual look-alikes.

Open Flag description to read the design in words. The description is available while the image loads and if it cannot load; the timer keeps running. These rounds prefer flags you have not seen recently, then reuse the least-recent flags when needed. A flag will not repeat within the same round. Text-based Flags rounds may also be available.

Are questions fact-checked, and will I see repeats?

We use several layers of automated quality checks before a question reaches a player. They screen for malformed questions, duplicate answer choices, repeated or closely similar questions, and detectable conflicts between an answer and its explanation. When repeat protection is active, recent question history also helps avoid questions you have already seen, including custom topics when their additional protection is enabled.

These checks make quizzes more reliable, but AI-generated questions are not individually fact-checked by a person, and occasional mistakes or repeats can still occur. If you spot an incorrect or ambiguous answer or see a repeat, please use the feedback form on the results screen or email ashopforquiz@gmail.com. Your feedback helps us keep improving the experience.

Are there free games and no signup?

Solo and multiplayer quizzes are free to play, and you do not need to register with an email address or password. Multiplayer asks for a nickname and uses an anonymous technical session to keep your place in a room. No signup does not mean that no data is processed.

How can I report an incorrect question or get help?

After a game, use the feedback option on the results screen to rate the quiz and add an optional comment. Feedback uses the solo or multiplayer mode you played. For help or a correction, email ashopforquiz@gmail.com. Explain what was unclear and, if possible, include a reliable source supporting the correction. Do not include passwords, private room invitations, or other players’ personal details.

If generation fails, use the retry option or return to the homepage and try a clearer topic. If a room has expired, start a new room. Reporting a disputed answer does not change an existing match score.
